VAESA MISSION STATEMENT

VAESA is a non- political association of dedicated elevator safety professionals focused on the promotion of proper and safe elevator installation, maintenance, alteration, operation, inspection, and testing. Our values are professionalism, accountability, credibility, dignity, and ethical performance. We value the diverse backgrounds of our members and recognize the value of their experience, skills, and knowledge. VAESA is committed to education, training, and sharing of information to accomplish our mission. Our defining statement and guide for providing information and professional code resolution is “Let the Code Decide “ .

A BRIEF HISTORY OF VAESA

VAESA was formed as a local/regional support group for AHJ elevator inspectors and other professionals. Since no one else has shown the leadership or willingness to too step forward and provide such a network, a handful of us from the Tidewater/Piedmont area showed the initiative to formally provide this service. As a small local/regional non-political organization we had no ambition of widespread political influence, presence, or control. VAESA does not seek to influence/intimidate others or interfere with anyone’s business. There is no one who speaks for VAESA or represents VAESA. We exist to accomplish the goals of our mission statement. All like minded people are welcome to VAESA as a valued member.

VAESA is a young organization with limited financial means and we are not able to go statewide at this time. We have received contact from other governmental inspectors, private inspectors, and industry representatives showing interest in the VAESA mission and organization. As much as this organization is needed and wanted, VAESA will do whatever it can do to accommodate everyone’s needs. However, VAESA exists only through the kindness of our respective Building Officials who allow us the time and expenses to promote the VAESA mission. In today’s economic atmosphere and budgetary restraints we are grateful for what we are allowed to do now, but we know that the future will be even more of a challenge.

THE FUTURE OF VAESA

One of our short term goals is to further develop educational and training services. VAESA hopes to be able to provide a training resource for fellow inspectors, tradesmen and other professionals. With the resources we can bring to the table, and the amount of required ongoing training required by DHCD/DPOR, it presents a win/win situation for all involved. VAESA has already discussed our proposals with and received approval from DHCD. We hope to start discussions with DPOR soon and receive their approval.

VAESA is a work in progress and you will find VAESA to be focused on safety code issues, training, and education. We wish to be a resource for our members and other professionals with common goals and interests. VAESA has a website under construction, but is up and running with limited information at this time (va-elevatorsafetyassn.org).
